I was in a bit of a reading rut this month & really wanted to read more of my summer reading list books but since we are preparing for a cross-country move to Vermont my head is totally in FALL mode, so summer books haven’t been calling to me as much.
Golden by Andrea Dickherber: Andrea actually reached out to me on Instagram & asked if she could send me a copy of her debut young adult novel & I’m so glad she did because not only did I LOVE her book (I can’t believe this is Andrea’s debut, she is an incredibly talented writer!) but I also enjoy keeping up with her on Instagram. Okay, now to my thoughts on Golden. While my high school experience was different from the main characters, there were so many ways I could relate to them. This story felt nostalgic in that way, causing me to reflect & reconnect with my high school years. This story is both beautiful & heartbreaking. Sometimes I felt like I was reading a memoir rather than a work of fiction, the details & sentiments of the narrator were so real & honest. An all-around enjoyable read that made me think & reminisce.
Vibrate Higher Daily by Lalah Delia: I loved all the little nuggets of gold & truth Lalah serves up. While I would have preferred a bit more depth to this book, it still felt like a big warm hug to my spirit. I loved the reminders of how to lift our vibrational energy & how Lalah constantly reminds the reader that everything is connected— from our mental & spiritual wellness to physical wellness, relational & environmental & how we honor & respect the planet.
How to Raise a Reader by Pamela Paul & Maria Russo: This book is such a helpful resource that I plan to open up again & again as my children age & their reading abilities & preferences evolve. Not only did it give me an abundance of insight & tips for developing a love of reading in my children (from birth to teenage years) it offers a plethora of book suggestions in a wide range of subjects which not only serves my ability select & offer my children the perfect reads at any milestone but! I am also eager to read many of these titles myself (especially the YA and middle grade texts). I kept this on our coffee table & read it in tiny chunks when I had an opportunity & loved every page & paragraph. I highly recommend this for parents of all ages!
Stray by Stephanie Danler: In this memoir, Stephanie’s words struck a very intimate chord within my own life experiences, this book was everything I never knew I needed. Thank you Stephanie for your bravery in sharing your own story, so openly. This book was beautiful & I also appreciated the interwoven sentiments about the Southern California landscapes, as someone who grew up & maintains family in those areas I enjoyed the inclusion of this insight.
